Valkyrie- Movie Review

Note- Reading this will not give the movie away.

3 1/2 stars out of 5
Before I start I must say it was very interesting to see Valkyrie and The Boy in Striped Pajamas. Both are about World War II but Valkyrie is told from a traitor to the Nazi party and The Boy in Striped Pajamas is told from a little kid who’s dad is a high ranking officer. Also some people say Tom Cruise overacted the movie. I agree but he only overacted maybe six scenes. Which is still a lot just a lot less than the whole movie.
Valkyrie, a true story, begins when Claus von Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise) is writing a letter while in Africa. Later Stauffenberg and gets shot by a plane. He loses his left eye, right hand, and the forth and fifth fingers on his left hand. He then gets evacuated Germany to be treated. At the same time Henning von Tresckow (Kenneth Branagh) attempts to  assassinate Adolf Hitler by smuggling  a bomb aboard his plane. The bomb doesn’t go off though and Tresckow safely gets it back. After learning that Major Hans Oster has been arrested he orders General Olbricht (Bill Nighy who did a great job) to find a replacement. He then choses Stauffenberg. Stauffenberg then goes to a meeting about how they are going to kill Hitler. He is shocked to find out that they have no plans after Hitler is dead. Stauffenberg comes home to Berlin and finds his kids putting on a play. He is shocked and worried when his daughter puts on his hat and does a Nazi sign. That same night Berlin gets bombed.  He than makes up a plan using Operation Valkyrie, which involves the deployment of the reserve army to maintain order in a national emergency, like Hitler’s death. They change the plan so they can destroy the Nazi’s after assassinating Hitler. They realize that only General Fromm, the head of the reserve army, can initiate Valkyrie so they offer him a “job” (I can’t really say what it is because that would give a little bit of the movie away). The new plan still needs to be signed by Hitler. Stauffenberg visits Hitler at his house. Hitler praises Stauffenberg’s heroism. Hitler then signs the rewritten copy of Valkyrie. That is about all I can say with out giving the movie away. I will leave you with these pictures. If you want to see the movie, hurry. It goes out of theater’s soon.

The real Stauffenberg is on the left and Tom Cruise is on the right.

Ben- I guess it was a little odd, but if they spoke German nobody would be able to understand it. 🙂 Kidding I know what you mean.

I really liked that movie espically considering the fact that like WWII and being a nice jewish I felt like it was required to learn about the attempted murder of the man who murdered millions Huck Fitler (pardon my language)
