Style Statements

First before I begin I know nothing about style like the pink hats. Why would I, Bob wear a pink hat. I know nothing about style unless it has to do with a baseball cap and a Red Sox jersey. I have no future in fashion. No the real reason I’m blogging about this is due to a blog, Girly Baseball Chick: A’s All the Time. Not a bad read if you haven’t checked it out yet. She talked about the pink hats. I support the pink hats. Yes, their not the team colors but their different. Sometimes people just want something different. Wouldn’t it be kind of boring if the only hat you could find was a green and gold A’s hat or a white and blue Padre hat? I know one of my readers, Julia wears a pink Red Sox hat. I can not stand the all white hats though you can’t see the logo or anything. That is why I support the pink hats.

New Era White on White Fashion Caps        Boston Red Sox Women's Pink Cap
Another thing I support is the green Red Sox uniforms. Yes the Red Sox colors are red and dark blue but the green is cool. Now I don’t mean to say I want the Red Sox to change their name to the Green Sox just wear the cool green hats and jerseys a little more. The only reason they wear the green uniforms is because of the Boston Celtics, the NBA team in Boston. When Kevin Garnett threw out the first pitch at Fenway Park the Red Sox wore their green uniforms. When the Celtics won the NBA championship the Red Sox wore the green uniforms. As you see the green uniforms is just showing respect to the Celtics. Even Manny liked them.
Another thing I like are the style caps. Some people say that only thugs were them. That is not true those are so cool. I don’t have one though. One game players should play with style caps. Their just so unique and different then the one we see David Ortiz, Ryan Braun, David Wright, and Andre Ethier wear on the fields. Another cool style cap are the stars and strip caps. They wore them on 9-11. I also think they wore them on the Fourth of July but I was at summer camp then. I really think the Blue Jay Canada hat. Those are so random, awesome, and cool. I bought one for no reason. I know it was a waist of money. I mean like I said about the pink hats sometimes people just want something different. Like the flat lids. I love those. My Red Sox hat has a flat lid. I only can think of one person who wears a flat lid, Joba Chamberlain who plays for the Y-. I told you I don’t like to say the Y word in my blog.

Random Junk

Okay it is really not junk.

1. Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day everyone. I think it is fitting to have Barack Obama go in to office the day after Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I must say I supported John McCain, but we must congratulate Mr. Obama on his historical achievement. We also must support him on being the next president of the U.S.A. So congrats Mr. Obama I hope you do well.

2. The teams for the Super Bowl are set. Yesterday the Arizona Cardinals upset the Philadelphia Eagles 32-25. The Cardinals were 9-7 in the regular season while the Eagles were 9-6-1. My Patriots were 11-5 and didn’t make the playoffs. The other team that got in was the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers beat the Baltimore Ravens 23-14. A while back I said the Steelers would beat the Giants in the Super Bowl. I still think the Steelers will win it all. I can’t wait for the Super Bowl and the commercials!

3. The Chicago Cubs traded outfielder, Felix Pie to the Orioles. In exchange the Cubs got Garrett Olson and prospect Henry Williamson. I think the Orioles got the better of the deal. Last season Pie hit .241, with one home run, ten RBI’s, and stole three bases. Olson had a record of nine-ten, with a 6.65 ERA, and 83 strike outs. Williamson in A ball had a record of zero-one, an ERA of 3.72, with three saves, and 42 strikeouts. Olson could compete with Sean Marshall for the fifth spot in the rotation.

4. The World Baseball Classic Rosters will be announced this evening. Some players who will play for team U.S.A. are Dustin Pedroia, Derek Jeter, Roy Oswalt, Jake Peavy,  Brad Hawpe, Grady Sizemore, Ryan Braun, and David Wright. For team Canada Justin Morneau will play. I think Jason Bay will play for team Canada too. For team Dominican Republic  Alex Rodriguez will play and David Ortiz will try to play. For team Japan Dice-K and Ichiro will play. The classic looks like a good one. I think team U.S.A. will win though.

5. Today in the NBA America will find out who will be the forth dunker in the 2009 Sprite Slam Dunk challenge. For the first time ever America got to vote for who should be the forth dunker, Joe Alexander, Rudy Fernandez, or Russell Westbrook. I voted for Russell Westbrook because I think Alexander needs to work on just being a better player than a better dunker. Fernandez plays on the Portland Trail Blazers and I don’t like the Trail Blazers that much. Another reason I voted for Westbrook is because the team he plays on, the Oklahoma City Thunder, as of January 19th has a record of eight-34. I think it could make the Oklahoma City Thunder feel a lot better. The winner will face off against Rudy Gay, Nate Robinson, and defending dunk champion “Superman” Dwight Howard.

The Roster Game- Infielders

First- Happy Eve of Christmas Eve . . . okay, that doesn’t make much sense but you get the idea.

Second- My Celtics are going for a 19 game winning streak today against the 76er’s.
Third- The Nationals upped up their offer to Tex’. Lets hope they get him so we don’t have to trade Lowell. I will say out of all the free agent signings the past few years this one has many mixed feelings for Red Sox fans.
Fourth- David Wright is going to play for team U.S.A.!
Fifth- Yes, it is true. I will not blog any more do to personal reasons. So, I will let my son take it over from here. We share many of the same feelings.
Okay, hi I’m Bob. I have my new bio in the top right if you want to read it.
So I’m Going to pick of from where we left off the infield.
1 base- Prince Fielder, .276, 34 home runs, 102 RBI’s, 3 Stolen Bases, $670,000

Prince had a down year from 50 home runs last year, but he is still young and hits for power. He is slow but he is doing the best he can with his weight. Prince is very cheep also.He could use a little work on his average though. Prince players for the love of the game thats why he ran out 2 or something like that  inside the park home runs.

Honorable Mention

Carlos Pena

2nd base- Dustin Pedroia- .326, 17 home runs, 83 RBI’s, 20 stolen bases, $457,000

I know that he got a big new contract but I’m using last years salaries and who wouldn’t want an MVP on their team for only $457,000. He also won a Golden Glove and a Silver Slugger. Pedroia is young and a great guy in the club house. He hits for decent power and great contact. He can bat any where in the order 1st, 2nd ,cleanup, or last, of course who would want him last? Peedie is only going to get better by age.

Honorable Mention

Ian Kinsler

Hanley Ramirez- .301, 33 home runs, 67 RBI’s, 35 stolen bases, $439,000

Hanley is a classic example of a great player playing for a bad team. Okay the Fish aren’t a bad team they aren’t just not that good. Hanley is a hall of famer in the making. He is fast, hits for power and contact, cheep, and a great influence in the clubhouse. He is still very young also.

Honorable Mention

Stephen Drew

3rd base

Kevin Youkilis-  .312, 29 home runs, 115 RBI’s, 3 stolen bases, $3,000,000

I know Youk doesn’t play third full time but he probably will after Tex’ comes and signs. Youk is a Gold Glover at first and third. He won the A.L. Hank Aaron award this year along with a third place finish in the MVP voting. Youk just gets better every year, I know I’ve said that a lot but Youk shows the best example. Youk will probably hit 30+ home runs next year.
